The 41st ICOFOM Annual Symposium on Museology and the Sacred (15-19 October 2018) opened October 15th at the National Museum of Iran. . The official inauguration was by a speech by Mr. Seyed Ahmad Mohit Tabatabaie, Chair of ICOM-Iran, followed by Dr. François Mairesse’s speech, President of ICOFOM. Dr. Mairesse had declared his content with the organization of the ICOFOM symposium in Iran. Since 2015, he had discussed the possibility to organize such an event with Mr. Mohit Tabatabaei. The decision was taken at the General Conference in Milan, Italy, in 2016, where the Iranian delegation proposed a program. ICOFOM considered it was essential that an international committee, such as the International Committee for Museology of ICOM, would come to Teheran in order to organize its annual symposium. Iran is a country that dates back to an ancient civilization, with very famous universities, and an abundance of heritage and wonderful museums. The theme that was chosen by both parts, museology and the sacred, was considered as evident for such a country as Iran, where the Sacred appears essential for life. After ICOFOM second workshop, the participants visited the Iranian National Museum of Science and Technology
